How To Cook Brown Rice
8 servings
When we learned how to cook brown rice this
way, we loved it. We call it "pasta-style" brown rice. Cooking brown
rice is actually
easier than cooking pasta because you don't have to test it. Just
cook 40 minutes and it is done.
16 oz brown
rice
8 quarts water
In a large nonstick pot, bring water to a boil. Add brown rice and
return to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-high. Cook, uncovered, for 40
minutes. Drain in a strainer.
Comments: This
brown rice recipe works
fine with
short, medium, or long grain brown rice. You can also use red rice or
black
rice, which are higher in antioxidants than brown rice. If you want to
cook a smaller amount of rice, that's fine. We always cook 16 oz. If we
don't need that much, we freeze the extra in ziploc bags.
You
can cook wild rice this
way but it takes longer: about 60 minutes. It is easy
to cook a brown rice/wild rice mixture. Boil the wild rice
for 20 minutes, then add the brown rice and cook for 40 minutes more.
Both are done perfectly.
