Are you Hungry
all the Time?
Check for these Common Causes
Your hunger drive works perfectly. If you are hungry all the time, your
body is telling you something. So when you ask, "why am I always
hungry?", there are several possible answers.
Not enough high nutrient foods
Are you eating enough high
nutrient, high fiber foods? These are the
satisfy your need for vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. And the
fiber fills your stomach. If you
are constantly hungry, remember that most of your diet should consist
of these foods:
- Most important are the dark leafy greens like
kale and collards. Discard the center
rib and cut the leaves in strips. Steam them for 12 minutes.
Eat at least half a bunch daily. A full bunch is even better. Eat salad
greens too, like spinach, assorted baby greens, romaine, and leaf
- Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli,
cauliflower, and brussels
sprouts. If you steam them, it is easier to eat large quantities.
- All other vegetables, especially
brightly colored ones.
- Tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
- Onions and garlic.
- Dark orange sweet potatoes, carrots, and winter
- Beans, especially dark colored ones like black
beans and kidney beans.

Oranges and grapefruit.
- A serving or two of whole grains every day,
like oatmeal, brown rice, millet, or quinoa.

add an ounce of raw nuts or seeds to your daily diet.
Too many low nutrient foods
These are the ingredients and
foods that give you calories but don't satisfy you. The more you eat,
the more you want. If you can't resist them, don't keep them in your
- White rice, white bread, and other white flour
- Sugar and other sweeteners

- All foods containing these ingredients. These
calorie foods. They don't belong in a vegan weight loss plan. After you
eat them, you are still hungry all the time because your body didn't
get the nutrients and fiber it needed.
Not enough calories
Did you cut calories too drastically? You are hungry because your body
needs more calories. It is not realistic to try to lose weight fast. It
is not healthy, and you will always gain the weight back again, plus
more. See our

Exercise has many benefits. It burns calories, and it also
suppresses appetite. Our bodies should be finely tuned machines, and
exercise is part of the tune-up process. Plus, while you are exercising
you are usually too busy to think about being hungry. Get a pedometer
and go for a walk every day.
Irregular meal hours
I (Elaine) was a flight attendant, I worked different hours every day.
I often worked all night. It was impossible to maintain regular meal
times and I often ate when I should have been sleeping, even if I
wasn't hungry. Not many people have a work schedule that weird, so try
to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. And plan your meals to fit
your own schedule.
Eat three meals a day. Eat at the same time
every day. Get up early enough to eat breakfast. Pack a lunch and take
it to work. Once you are eating the right foods, getting some exercise,
and sleeping enough, your hunger drive will normalize. You will only
get hungry when it is time for a meal. This kind of hunger is normal.
You will feel satisfied after you eat.
Get a life!
finally, are you hungry all the time because you are bored or you don't
have anything else to do? Don't think about food and dieting all the
time. Find some activities that will keep you busy or get you out of
the house. After all, life is short. :-)
